Vent: A guy at the Portland game cafe totally changed how I see 'gatekeeping'

I was demoing a heavy euro game there last month and got stuck on a rule. This older dude at the next table leaned over and said, 'The rulebook's wrong on page 7, the designer posted a fix on BGG.' He wasn't being a jerk, he just wanted to help. I'd always thought hardcore fans were just trying to show off, but he was actually super welcoming. How do you handle it when you see a rule mistake at a public game night?

Oh man, I just silently judge and let them learn the hard way.

Ha, that's a solid plan. I get what you mean, ivanb41. I saw a guy at the hardware store last week trying to load bags of concrete mix that were clearly split open. The cashier told him they were leaking and he just shrugged. Sometimes you just have to watch the lesson happen.
