Ran the same game night with cardboard standees vs painted minis and the table went dead quiet
So I host a weekly game night at my place in Akron and we finally cracked open a big dungeon crawler that came with like 60 unpainted minis. For the first session I just used the flat cardboard standees that came in the box, and it was fine, people moved their little guys around and we finished in about two hours. Next week I swapped in a buddy's painted set, same scenario, same four players, and I swear the game slowed down by like 45 minutes because everyone kept picking up the minis and holding them up to the light to look at the details. One guy, Dave, spent a full turn just staring at his dwarf and going "look at the beard, man" instead of picking his action. The weird part is nobody complained about the extra time, we just sat there admiring plastic for a while. So now I'm torn, do painted minis make a game better or just slower? Anyone else notice their group plays different when the pieces are nice?
