My tongs keep slipping on round stock, and I think it's the jaw shape
I've been forging for about 3 years in a little shed outside Spokane, and after a dozen failed attempts at holding 1 inch round bar for a scroll end, I finally realized my tongs were cut with parallel jaws instead of a V groove. Looked at a buddy's shop setup last weekend, he had the same problem and switched to flat jaw tongs with a slight offset, and he told me 'round stock wants three points of contact, not two.' Has anyone else fought this and found a specific jaw geometry that works better for taper work on heavier stock, or am I just overthinking the grip angle?
