The before-and-after on my favorite show's audio mix is wild
I was rewatching 'The Haunting of Hill House' on Netflix last week after a 2-year break. The first time I watched it on my old TV, the whispers and low talking were fine. But now on my new soundbar, I can suddenly hear every single background noise and it changes the whole vibe. Anyone else notice a huge difference when you upgrade your sound system on a show you thought you knew?

Flip the perspective - what if upgrading your sound system actually ruins the original intended experience? Some directors mix audio specifically for cheap TV speakers knowing that's what most people have, so adding a high-end soundbar might reveal sounds that were meant to stay buried. I wonder if Mike Flanagan ever addressed this about Hill House specifically.

Oh man, this hit me hard! My friend Sarah rewatched Lost on her new setup last month and she was shook. She always thought the island background noises were just wind and trees, but with her new speakers she caught like actual faint whispers and footsteps in the jungle that changed whole scenes for her. Said she had to rewatch the first 3 seasons because it felt like a different show. Now she's always texting me like "did you hear that weird scratch sound when Locke was talking?" It's wild how much sound design you miss with basic TV speakers.
