Shade cloth saved my July balcony lettuce

My lettuce kept bolting by late June, even in the morning sun spot on my 8th floor balcony in Phoenix. I put up a 40% shade cloth using zip ties and binder clips, just on the south side. It dropped the temp enough that I got two more harvests before August. Has anyone else tried moving pots instead of cloth? Curious if that works better for smaller spaces.
