The bakery on 9th in Boise puts frosting on everything and I think it is a crime
I walked into a small bakery on 9th street in Boise last weekend and every single thing in the case had a inch of buttercream on it, even the croissants. I get that frosting sells but a croissant does not need to look like a birthday cake, and I think bakers who do this are hiding dry dough. Does anyone else get annoyed when a shop covers up bad baking with sugar, or am I the only one who wants to see the crumb?
Get why you're bugged but I see it the other way. A little frosting on a croissant can work if the dough is solid underneath, and some shops just have a sweet tooth in their style. Bad baking shows through no matter how much sugar you pile on, so maybe give the crumb a chance before writing the place off.
