Dropped $95 on a pastry mat with printed measurements and I finally stopped guessing at dough thickness
I kept rolling pie crusts too thin on one side and too thick on the other because I was just eyeballing it with a tape measure, which never worked once flour got everywhere. Two weeks ago I finally bought one of those silicone mats with the circle guides and inch marks printed right on it for about $95 at a local shop here in Cincinnati. First time I used it I rolled out a crust that was dead even all the way around and it baked up with no soggy spots at all. I also use it for cookies and biscuits now, and cleanup takes like ten seconds under warm water. My only complaint is it slides around on my counter unless I wet the underside first. Has anyone found a mat that actually grips on its own, or do you all just deal with the slipping too?
