Showerthought: I thought splitting utilities evenly was fair until my roommate ran a crypto rig in our 400 sq ft apartment
I always figured even split on power was the roommate code, no drama. Then my electric bill in Austin jumped from $80 to $240 in one month and I found a box humming in his closet with three fans and a screen showing numbers. He said it was "just a hobby" but my share went up $70 while he was pulling in maybe $9 a day mining some coin I never heard of. I made him pay the difference and he acted like I was the bad guy. Has anyone else had to confront a roommate about a hidden power suck, or do you just eat the cost to keep the peace?
