My sister asked why I stopped locking my bedroom door after 4 months with my old roommate, and I finally said it out loud
My sister was helping me move into a new place on Saturday when she noticed I don't lock my bedroom door when I leave for work anymore. She asked why, and I had to stop taping up a box because I didn't have a good answer. About two years ago I lived with a guy in Richmond who would walk into my room while I was at my 9 to 5 and borrow stuff, and I'm not talking about a charger. He took my $80 headphones, a hoodie, and twice he ate leftovers I had labeled with my name and the date. I started locking my door, which made things tense, and we had a blowup where he called me dramatic. The weird part is I moved out 8 months ago and I'm still doing it out of habit, even with a roommate now who I barely see. My sister pointed out that I spent $12 on a doorknob lock and it cost me way more than that in feeling like a guest in my own room. Has anyone else kept a habit from a bad roommate long after they moved out?
