Showerthought: everyone says clean the coop weekly, but going 3 weeks in winter cut my hens' frostbite risk to zero
I run deep litter in a 6x8 coop here in Fargo and after two winters of weekly full cleanouts leaving bare cold floors, I switched to just adding pine shavings and turning it every few days, and the compost heat kept the coop above freezing at -20 last January with no frostbitten combs on my 8 birds, so has anyone else noticed the deep clean people are the ones posting frostbite pics every February?

Yep, same here in Minnesota, deep litter kept my girls combs clean all winter.
