Rant: I tried a plastic coop for a year and then built a wooden one, and the difference is huge

I bought a cheap plastic coop kit online for about $200 when I got my first three hens. It got damp inside, felt stuffy, and cleaning it was a pain. Last spring I built a simple wooden coop with proper vents and a slanted roof, and now my girls are way more active and lay better. Has anyone else made a switch like this and seen a big change in their flock's health?

Honestly, the plastic coop thing goes way past just dampness and cleaning. Tbh, I worry about off-gassing from cheap plastic in the hot sun all day. Those coops can get crazy hot, and you're basically baking chemicals right where your chickens breathe and sleep. Ngl, switching to wood probably got rid of that weird plastic smell too, which we might not notice but they definitely do. It's a whole air quality thing we don't talk about enough. That stuffy feeling you had? The chickens felt it ten times worse, and it can totally mess with their laying.

But what if the dampness was from setup and not the plastic? My friend's plastic coop is fine because he put it on gravel with extra roof shade. Maybe the real issue is just bad coop placement for any material.
