My free coop bedding hack from yard waste
I had too many leaves after raking last fall. Instead of tossing them, I layered them in the chicken run. The chickens scratched and turned them into nice, dry bedding. Now I save all my leaves and grass clippings for this. It cuts down on waste and keeps the coop cozy for free.

Oh cool, I read some article about doing that exact thing.

Remember that article about using pine needles? My buddy tried it last fall and had the worst time. He spent a whole weekend raking them up and spreading them around his blueberry bushes. He said it looked great for about two days, then we got that heavy rain and it all just turned into this soggy, matted blanket. He ended up having to shovel the whole slimy mess into bags anyway. Total waste of a Saturday.
