Sounds like the weak point was the edges, not the sheet itself. Polycro is actually really tough in the middle but it rips right where your stakes poke through or where it rubs on rocks. Try putting a little duct tape on the corners and cutting it bigger than your tent so the edges can bunch up instead of tearing.
