Skeptical about those thermal imaging phone attachments until last month

I always figured the cheap thermal cameras for your phone were gimmicks for homeowners, not real avionics tools. Then we had a intermittent short in a bundle behind the aft equipment bay on a King Air in Phoenix. My buddy pulled out his FLIR One and we found a hot splice in about 20 minutes that had been eating our multimeter time for two days. The resolution is decent enough to spot a 5 degree difference on a connector, and it caught a failing relay before it smoked. We still use the bench setup for serious cal work, but for quick troubleshooting in the field it's earned a spot in my bag. Anyone else found utility in those attachments for chasing heat signatures on older airframes?
