I finally checked my spark plug gap after ignoring it for years

Turns out the factory spec for my Civic was 0.044 inches and I was running them at 0.030 for the last 3 years... found that stat in the owner's manual I never opened. Has anyone else had a tune-up surprise like that from just reading the book?

I had a timing belt snap on a mountain road once, totally ruined my whole trip.

Honestly, I used to be one of those people who didn't think timing belts were that big of a deal. Figured it was just another upsell from the shop. Then my buddy's belt let go on the highway doing 70 and bent every valve in his engine. That five hundred dollar job turned into a three thousand dollar nightmare real quick. Now I replace mine early every time without question.
