Why does nobody talk about direct pickup vs going through a broker for a 400 mile move
I moved my Civic from Sacramento to Reno last month and got quotes both ways. The broker line rang like six times, kept me on hold for 20 minutes, then handed me off to a dispatcher who never called back until 3 days later. I finally just called a small carrier in Sparks directly and had a guy named Manny at my door at 8am on a Tuesday, loaded in 25 minutes, and delivered same day for $340 flat. The broker wanted $495 and 4 to 6 days of waiting. So which one is actually better for short hauls, or did I just get lucky with the direct carrier?
