Shoutout to the dispatcher in Ohio who pushed me to switch from brokers to a direct carrier
Back in 2019 I shipped my dad's truck from Phoenix to Cleveland using a broker and it was a mess, pickup got delayed 4 days and the final price jumped $175 over the quote. Last month I tried a small direct carrier out of Columbus instead and it was night and day. They gave me a straight number up front, showed up on a Tuesday morning like they promised, and the driver actually called me twice with updates. The broker route always felt like playing phone tag with 3 different people who never knew where my car was. Direct carrier cost me $40 more but I'd pay that any day for no surprises. Anyone else made the switch or still sticking with brokers for the cheaper upfront quote?
Man, my only shipping experience is mailing a birthday card and even I messed that up. But yeah, a straight price and a driver who actually calls sounds worth the extra $40, phone tag with three strangers would drive me nuts.
