Reading that flat rate techs only get paid for 4.2 hours on a 9 hour job made me rethink the whole industry
Saw a stat from a 2023 shop survey that the average flat rate tech in the US gets paid for about 4.2 hours out of every 9 hour day, which means most of us are basically working half our shift for free. Some guys say flat rate pushes you to get faster and rewards skill, others say it just pits techs against each other and shops love it because they dont pay for downtime. Curious what side you all land on, is flat rate fair or should more shops move to hourly?
