A kid at my shop asked why I still use a paper repair order, and it made me think about what we lose with tablets
Honestly I was training a new guy a couple weeks ago and he watched me write out a repair order by hand and asked why I don't just use a tablet like everyone else. I told him the paper keeps me honest because I can't scroll past a line I forgot to fill in. He said his old shop went full digital and their comeback rate went up because nobody was double checking the write up before handing the keys back. That number stuck with me, a higher comeback rate just from skipping one step. Tbh I think we gained speed but lost a lot of the little pauses that catch mistakes. I've been having the new guys read their own write ups out loud before they touch the car now, and it's caught stuff like a missed tire rotation note twice this month. Has anyone else seen comebacks go up after their shop switched to tablets, or is it just how we're using them?
