Question about a weird door gap on a 2018 F-150
I had a 2018 F-150 come in last week with a rear door that just wouldn't sit flush after a minor side swipe. The gap was off by maybe an eighth of an inch at the top. I figured it was a simple hinge adjustment, but it turned out the inner structure behind the quarter panel had a tiny bend I couldn't see without pulling the interior trim. What I thought was a 30-minute fix ended up taking almost 4 hours to find and sort out. Has anyone else run into something like this on the newer aluminum body trucks? I'm wondering if they're just more sensitive to hidden tweaks.

More sensitive to hidden tweaks" might be overstating it. An eighth inch gap is super small, and that kind of hidden damage can happen on any body material. It just sounds like you got unlucky with a tricky spot.

Yeah, tell that to my wallet. An eighth inch gap might as well be a canyon when the repair bill shows up. Just my luck finding the one spot that costs a fortune.

Had the exact same thing happen on my old sedan, thought I was being careful and still ended up with a hidden dent in the rear quarter panel. Body shop guy looked at it for about two seconds before saying "that's gonna be a special order fix." Sometimes you just hit that one spot where the metal folds wrong and it costs you double.
