Had a paint match nightmare on a 2017 Civic in silver

I was at our shop in Phoenix last Thursday, spraying a rear quarter panel. The factory code said it was Taffeta White, but when I sprayed it, the blend line looked totally off, like a weird gray stripe. I checked the mix three times and it was right. Turns out the car had been repainted before with a slightly different formula. I had to custom tint it by eye, adding a tiny bit of blue and black to get it right. Took me an extra hour and a half. Anyone else run into a factory code being wrong because of a past job?

That's not a factory code being wrong, it's just a bad prior repair. The code was right for the original paint.

Totally agree, been there myself. Bought a car where the door had clearly been resprayed and the code on the sticker was useless. Spent way too long trying to match a color the car never even wore from the factory. It's such a headache when people don't write down what they actually did.
