Wasted $220 on a solar filter I can't even use now

Grabbed a white light filter off a big auction site last spring. Thought it was a deal. Got it in, slapped it on my 8 inch dob. First look at sunspots was amazing, no lie. Then I tried to use it for the April eclipse transit. Turns out the threads were stripped and it wobbled like crazy. Couldn't get a single sharp photo. Tossed it in the drawer after that. Anybody else gotten burned by cheap astro gear that looks fine but falls apart on the mount?
