Unpopular opinion: the stacked 50 frame moon shots people post here look worse than a single clean one
My neighbor Dale has been shooting the moon for about 3 years now from his driveway in Boise, and last week he pulled up two versions on his laptop. One was a stack of 50 frames run through some free software. The other was one shot, 1/250 at f/8, nothing done to it. He said "tell me which one you'd hang on the wall" and I picked the single one without even thinking. The stack was sharper on the crater edges, sure, but it looked gray and flat and sort of fake. The single shot had shadows in the craters that actually made it look round. Now I feel like half the photos in here are grading on effort instead of how the thing actually reads to a human eye. Am I the only one who likes a little grain and a darker limb over a perfectly smooth disk?
