I thought my phone camera was good enough for the eclipse until I compared my shots to a guy with a $30 solar filter
Went to the local astronomy club meetup in Tucson last October for the partial eclipse and snapped pics with just my phone held up to the lens. A guy next to me had a cheap solar filter on a basic DSLR and his shots showed actual sunspots while mine were just a white blob. Turns out the phone was blowing out every detail because it can't handle that much brightness. What's the cheapest filter setup people here actually recommend for a beginner?
