Spent 45 minutes hunting for an 1850s census record that did not exist
Trying to trace my great-great-grandfather for a family history project. Found a note saying he lived in Pittsburgh in 1852. Searched Ancestry, FamilySearch, even the Library of Congress site. Finally asked a reference librarian at the Carnegie Library. She pointed out that the 1850 census was taken in June and the 1860 one in June too. He moved to Pittsburgh in late 1851, so he was never counted in that city during either one. I wasted a whole evening over something that was just not there. Anyone else ever spend forever chasing a record that turned out to be a gap in the data?
