Renewing library books online feels too easy, I miss the paper slip ritual

I used to drive 20 minutes to the branch every 3 weeks just to hand my stack to the clerk and get those dated receipts, but now that I renew from my couch in 2 clicks, I actually worry I'm forgetting the books exist, does anyone else treat the physical return as part of actually finishing the reading?

Man, your post actually made me stop and think. I used to be the one laughing at people who romanticized the library visits, like just grab the book and go, who cares about the slip. But now I get it. The physical return is like closing the loop, it gives you that little moment of being done with the story. When I renew online, I keep pushing the same books around my nightstand for months, and they start to feel like background noise instead of something I actually read. That little dated receipt was proof I finished something, you know? Now I just have a silent Kindle notification and zero closure. I started setting calendar reminders to actually drive the books back even when I renew, just to keep that feeling of handing them over. So yeah, you changed my view on this one.
