Warning: I labeled a 2,000 year old Roman coin as a button for 3 weeks
So I got this small bronze disc in a junk lot from an estate sale in Bath, England, and I tossed it in my button tin because it had a little loop on the back. Three weeks later I posted a pic on a metal detecting forum and a guy named Phil asked why I was putting a hole through a 1st century Roman fibula brooch. Turns out that "loop" was the catch plate, and I had been using a 1,900 year old artifact to hold my work shirts closed. How many of you have almost ruined something old because you had no clue what you were looking at?
Wait you were literally stabbing a hole through a 1900 year old brooch to hold your work shirts?? That catch plate part is sending me, like the Romans had no idea their fancy jewelry would end up as a shirt clip in someone's laundry rotation. Phil is a real one for catching that before you did actual damage.
