My uncle told me at Thanksgiving that most 'Roman coins' people find in the UK get logged and never studied, is that true?

He said something like 25,000+ finds a year go into the Portable Antiquities Scheme and only a fraction ever get written up, which blew my mind for a hobby I always figured was about the finds themselves. Anyone here worked with a museum or FLO on getting a random find actually looked at?
