My professor said never trust a farmer's field for artifacts. He was wrong.
Back in 2019, I was doing a survey near St. Louis with my college group. Dr. Hendricks kept telling us to skip the plowed fields, said anything good would be crushed or mixed up. Well, I was bored one afternoon and wandered into this soybean field anyway. Found a little brown pottery sherd just sitting on the surface. Turned out to be part of a Mississippian vessel from like 1200 AD. Lab dated it and everything. Now I always check the fields. Has anyone else been told to avoid a spot but found something cool there anyway?
