I mapped a whole Roman villa from my couch using free satellite images instead of driving out there
Two years ago I would drive 90 minutes each way to walk a field near Cirencester looking for crop marks, and half the time I came home with nothing but muddy boots. Last month I pulled up the free Sentinel-2 imagery on my laptop and spotted the full outline of a villa with two wings in about 20 minutes, which I later confirmed against a 1958 aerial photo from the local archive. Has anyone else switched to scouting from home first, or do you all still trust your eyes on the ground more than the screen?
