Had to choose between a trowel and a tarp for my dig site last weekend
Picked the tarp to mark off a grid for a suspected burial mound, and then the wind kicked up and turned the whole thing into a sail that wiped out half my stakes. Has anyone else had their careful planning wrecked by weather at the worst possible moment?

Ha! Oh man, I feel this in my soul. Tarps and wind are like peanut butter and jelly except the sandwich is trying to murder your whole project. I once showed up to find my carefully laid out grid looking like a parachute that had wrestled a tornado and lost. Spent the next hour chasing stakes across a field like some kind of idiot trying to herd cats in a hurricane. Landscaping staples sound smart but I swear the wind knows when you're holding a beer in one hand and a staple in the other.

Tarp's a gamble for sure, I switched to those heavy duty landscaping staples after my own sail incident. They hold way better than the skinny stakes in gusty spots. Just hammer em in at an angle.
