Rant: I paid $95 for a rebuilt control board for a Kenmore 417 washer and it was dead on arrival
Back when I started fixing machines in my dad's shop, you could walk into a parts house in Dayton and test a board on the counter before you paid for it. Last month I ordered a "tested" rebuilt board from an online seller, waited 9 days for it, and it wouldn't even power the display. The seller wanted me to pay return shipping and a 20% restocking fee, so I ate the $95 and put a used OEM pull in it instead. Any of you still buying rebuilt boards, or do you just hunt eBay for pulls now?
Went through the same mess with a Whirlpool board last year and just stopped buying rebuilt altogether, because the "tested" label does not mean much when they only check for power and not the actual cycles. Best move is to find a local shop that pulls boards from dead machines, or hit up eBay sellers who show a pic of the board running in the machine. Costs about the same as rebuilt most days, but at least you know it worked before it got boxed up.
