R134a in a can vs. a real vacuum pump, and why I wasted 6 months on the cheap route
I used to top off sealed systems with those $12 cans of R134a and call it done, till a guy in Tucson handed me back a fridge I'd "fixed" twice in four months. Once I finally dropped $180 on a proper vacuum pump and gauges, my callback rate on sealed systems went from about 1 in 5 to almost zero, because pulling a real vacuum actually finds the leaks you can't see. The cans just mask a leak with more refrigerant, and it's the customer who eats the cost when it bleeds out again. Anybody else here running a pump on sealed systems or do you still mess with cans for quick jobs?
