OEM thermistor vs the $8 knockoff, learn from my 3 hour mistake

Last Thursday I swapped a fridge thermistor on a Whirlpool and grabbed the cheap one from the local parts bin. It read 10 degrees off right away, so I chased the whole defrost system for 3 hours before checking resistance at 32F. Put in the OEM part for $28 and it was dead on within 10 minutes. Anyone else stopped trusting generic sensors after a similar fight, or do some brands actually hold up?

Wasn't a believer until a cheap sensor had me replacing a control board for nothing, so yeah, I get it now. OEM might cost more, but my time is worth way more than the $20 I saved.
