Got rejected by 47 landlords in Denver before one said yes because of my cat
So I moved to Denver for work in March and started looking for a 1 bedroom under $1,400. I keep a spreadsheet for everything so I tracked every single application, and by week 6 I was at 47 rejections. Most places just ghosted me, but 9 of them gave the same reason: my cat. Not a dog, a cat. One guy in Capitol Hill said quote I don't rent to pet owners because pets ruin floors unquote even though I offered a $500 pet deposit. I even made a little resume for my cat with vet records and a reference from my old landlord. Still nothing. Then a lady renting a basement unit in Baker said she grew up with cats and took me in an hour after we met. I signed that lease so fast I forgot to check if the outlets worked. Is it normal for landlords here to hate cats this much, or did I just get unlucky for 6 weeks straight?
The cat resume is what got me. You basically did more homework for your cat than most people do for their own jobs, vet records, a reference, the whole thing, and a guy in Capitol Hill still looked you in the eye and said pets ruin floors. Cats sleep 16 hours a day, they are not out here hosting parties on your hardwood. Denver's rental market is just rough right now and a lot of landlords use pets as an easy excuse to filter people out, so I doubt it was personal. The Baker lady sounds like good people, and honestly forgetting to check the outlets is the most understandable thing in this whole story.
