Showerthought: I called old speaker foam a lost cause until I refoamed a pair from a curb in Denver
Two months ago I pulled a pair of Realistic Nova 4 speakers out of a snowbank on my street in Denver, and the foam surrounds were totally gone, just crumbly orange dust on the cone edges. I always figured refoaming was a waste of time and that a bad surround meant the driver was done, so I almost left them there. Then a guy at my local electronics swap meet sold me a $12 foam kit and said to scrape the old glue with a fingernail, not a blade. It took me 3 hours and one ruined surround, but they sing now, and I play records through them every night. Has anyone else had a repair that seemed pointless until the last 10 minutes?
