Question about fixing a light leak that took me 4 weekends

I noticed a bright streak on the right side of every frame from my Canon AE-1, so I thought new light seals would fix it. I put in the foam kit from Amazon and it still leaked, so I tried black electrical tape around the door and that helped a little but not enough. Turns out the leak was actually coming from the viewfinder seal up top, which took me 4 weekends and about $30 in wasted foam to figure out. Now I'm wondering if anyone else has chased a leak for a month only to find it was somewhere totally dumb?
