Question about pushing film: a lab tech in Portland changed my mind on box speed
I always shot my rolls at box speed and never gave it a thought. Then a lab tech in Portland asked what meter I trusted and why, and I admitted I just used the one in my camera. He said "try rating your HP5 at 800 and develop a bit longer, you might like the shadows more." I did it on two rolls around the neighborhood, and the grain was actually nicer than the muddy blacks I kept getting before. Now I shoot a stop over on purpose for anything after 4pm. Is there a point where pushing starts to hurt highlights too much for you?
