Shoutout to the 7th ending I wrote for my short story, the one where nobody wins
I wrote six alt endings for my sci-fi short about a Mars colony and hated all of them, so on the 7th try I just had the reactor fail and nobody make it home. That was the first one my writing group in Denver actually argued about for 40 minutes instead of nodding politely. The weird part is the failure ending made readers care more about the characters, because they kept looking for a way out that I never wrote. Anyone else notice that a total loss ending sometimes lands harder than a rescue? I want to hear which endings in books or movies killed you because there was no happy way out.
