My $2,000 'director's cut' Blu-ray impulse buy that killed the magic

Bought the 4K extended edition of Alien 3 that supposedly 'fixes' the studio mess. Cost me a stupid $2,000 through a collector in Austin, Texas. Watched it twice and realized the theatrical cut's flaws were what made it interesting. The assembly cut is just cleaner garbage, so now I'm stuck with a fancy paperweight. Has anyone else dropped serious cash on an alternate cut and regretted how it changed the story for you?
