Appreciation post: my barber's offhand comment reframed how I see movie endings
Was getting a trim in Denver last Tuesday and my barber, while fixing my fade, said he watches the last five minutes of a film first to decide if it's worth his time. I laughed, but then realized I've been doing the opposite my whole life, judging an ending only after sitting through everything before it. He walked me through how he views the finish as a promise, not a payoff, and that made me rethink movies like No Country for Old Men or The Sopranos finale. Now I catch myself checking how a story closes before I even start it, and it changes whether I stick with slow builds. Anyone ever had a conversation that flipped your take on a controversial ending, and did it stick?
