Can we talk about the old torque wrench calibration trap
Back when I started, I thought I could save a few bucks by skipping the yearly torque wrench calibration. My old boss told me 'Riley, that's the dumbest thing you'll ever do.' I didn't listen. Two years later, I had to redo a whole set of cylinder base nuts on a Cherokee Six. The shop billed me for six hours of labor at $95 an hour, so that was $570 out of my pocket, plus the parts. Now I just put the calibration date on my calendar like clockwork. Anyone have a good shop they trust for sending tools out, or do you do it in-house?

Man, that's a perfect example of why "saving" money on calibration always costs you more in the end. It's like a tax on skipping the basics.

Oh, I used to cut that corner myself. Learned the hard way when a cheap fix turned into a full replacement. You're right, it's just paying more later.

That 80 dollar car alignment I skipped cost me 600 in tires last year. It's the same story everywhere, people skip the small thing and get hit with the big thing. Isn't it funny how the easy shortcuts always end up being the most expensive road?
