Lost $80 on an AI code generator that just made things worse

I paid $80 for a monthly sub to one of those AI tools that promises to write clean code and fix bugs automatically. Sounded great for my small side project. First few outputs looked fine but then it started "fixing" things that weren't broken. Took me 3 evenings to untangle the mess it made in my React app. Customer support said I must have used it wrong. Anyone else burned cash on an AI dev tool that oversold its abilities? What actually worked for you instead?
