The carousel at West Oaks Mall finally stopped spinning for good last month

I drove by West Oaks Mall two weeks ago and noticed the carousel is gone. That thing had been running since they opened in 1988, and I used to take my niece there every Christmas just to ride it. They sold it off to some private collector before the mall closes for good in June. Anyone know what other old malls are losing their last original features?

The "feels like a ghost town" part really gets me. I started going to a different mall a half hour away just to find a working fountain that hadn't been turned into a seating area. It's sad watching these places lose the small stuff that made them feel alive.

The West Oaks carousel being sold actually made me realize how fast these malls are really dying.

Honestly the "realized how fast these malls are really dying" part hits hard. I see it with a lot of the bigger chains in my area too, where one anchor store closes and suddenly the whole place feels like a ghost town. It's like these places just fade out slower than anyone notices until something like a carousel getting sold makes it obvious.
